Leading Geelong pool builders King’s Gardens & Pools, in collaboration with Josh Crosbie Architects and Walker Building Co., were entrusted with the transformation of a prestigious 1870s Victorian villa into a breathtaking private oasis in central Geelong. This ambitious project blended heritage charm with cutting-edge design, resulting in a landscape that feels both timeless and indulgently modern.
The centrepiece is a 12.4m pool featuring a dramatic three-sided negative edge, accompanied by a custom-built four-sided infinity spa — a truly unique feature that flows into its own catchment trough before cascading into the pool. The spa’s elevated position allows for uninterrupted views of the garden and outdoor TV, creating the perfect space to relax and unwind.
Design elements were carefully chosen to respect the home’s historic architecture. Dark mosaic pool tiles reflect the surrounding greenery, while custom bluestone water features echo the symmetry of original garden hedges. The pool fence, crafted from black powder-coated steel, references the cast iron lacework of the villa’s verandah, offering safety without compromising aesthetics.
A European-imported hardwood diving board, long internal bench, and beach entry complete the pool’s functional features, while lush plantings, asymmetrical bluestone paving, and a thoughtfully layered garden soften the bold structural forms.
Despite the challenges — from heritage restrictions to complex construction logistics — the end result is a refined, resort-style backyard that complements the grandeur of the home. This project is a testament to what expert Geelong pool builders like King’s Gardens & Pools can achieve when innovation, heritage, and craftsmanship meet.
