King’s Gardens and Pools completed a stunning garden design in Ocean Grove, transforming a tired post-renovation yard into a lush, low-maintenance coastal haven. The brief called for a garden that embraced the relaxed feel of the Bellarine coastline while offering privacy, colour, and a variety of plant textures.
To meet the client’s need for screening, Bamboo Gracilis was planted along the boundary, creating a natural, vertical barrier from neighbouring properties. The upper level of the garden, designed with native and coastal-tolerant species, features Correa alba trimmed into architectural spheres, Verbena bonariensis for its tall purple blooms, and Aloe ‘Sea Urchin’ for bold splashes of red-orange colour.
A winding sand dune-inspired path invites you to wander through the garden, guided gently by the thoughtful placement of plantings. Textural interest was added with Crassula ‘Bluebird’, Beschorneria Mexican Lily, and Fatsia Japonica, while the mid-canopy provides dappled shade and depth.
The front of the home presented a unique opportunity for a dramatic transformation. With a deck suspended above a sloping block and existing Coastal Tea Trees overhead, Kings Landscaping created a shaded, forest-like garden. Future canopy cover will be provided by Cyathea cooperi (Tree Fern), while Alpinia nutans (Dwarf Cardamom) adds scent and soft texture to the underplanting. New Zealand Rock Lily, planted en masse beneath the deck, enhances the cool, lush aesthetic of this secluded garden retreat.
The result is a garden that feels both natural and designed—an immersive outdoor space that reflects the relaxed lifestyle of Ocean Grove while meeting the client’s vision for beauty and functionality.
